Clip-ins or a halo?
Check the fit, reach and removal before you buy.

Clip-ins attach several strips of hair in separate rows. A halo uses one wider piece supported by a wire, sometimes with clips too. Before choosing, check how it fits, whether your own hair covers it and whether you can remove every attachment.

Clip-ins mean several rows to reach

Each strip of extension hair is called a weft. Snap clips along its top grip your own hair. Check the set’s row diagram: you need enough hair to support and cover every piece, and you must be able to open every clip.

A halo needs the right wire size

A halo places a wide hair piece around the back of your head with a wire over the crown. Some also use clips. Ask how that exact design is sized and fitted. One piece does not automatically mean less work or a better fit.

What helps, day to day

An adult holds a physical extension sample underneath dry mid-lengths beside a window.

The screen color may not match

  • Hold a physical sample under your dry mid-lengths and ends in daylight and your usual indoor lighting.
  • Compare color and texture.
  • Check return rules before opening the full set.
  • A color sample cannot tell you how the attachments will feel.

A clip tugs or the wire presses

  • Support the piece, open every clip and lift it off.
  • Check the supplier’s fit instructions before retrying.
  • Do not backcomb fragile hair, add clips or tighten a painful wire to hold it in place.

Include removal time in your decision

  • Take temporary pieces out before bed, washing or swimming, and check other limits for your set.
  • Practice removal before a long outing.
  • If the weight bothers you or you cannot reach the clips, consider another design or no extensions.

Products, by the job they do

Hands support a removable extension weft at its seam while rinsing the hanging lengths under running water.

Check the piece’s wash directions first

Your usual shampoo may not suit the extension’s fiber, seams or finish. Find out which cleanser and wash method the supplier allows before you use anything on it.

Follow the piece’s conditioner instructions

Check where to apply conditioner, how long to leave it and how to rinse it out. Human hair, synthetic fiber and specially curled pieces can need different care. Wash and condition your own hair separately, after removing the extensions.

Putting on and caring for your piece

Put in and remove clip-ins

Start with dry, detangled hair and dry pieces. Follow the set’s row diagram, keep the seams relaxed and leave enough upper hair to cover them. Practice opening every clip before wearing the set.

This method shows a wire-and-clip halo whose clips fasten before the wire is settled. Size your piece first using its own instructions. Take it off if the wire presses or a clip pulls.

Clean washable human-hair clip-ins

This method is for removable human-hair pieces that allow hand-washing and flat air-drying. It includes a rinse after shampoo and another after conditioner. Check the care instructions before wetting synthetic or specially curled pieces.
