Clean removable clip-in extensions

Wash and rinse each removable human-hair piece, condition as directed, rinse again and let it dry flat before storage.

Step by step

  1. One hand holds a dry clip-in weft at its seam while the other brushes its ends; the other wefts lie separately beside it.

    Brush each dry piece

    • A weft is a strip of extension hair joined at the top. Remove every piece and check its wash instructions, including how to clean the seam and clips.
    • Hold the dry piece by its seam. Start brushing near the ends, with strokes toward the tips. Begin higher only when the hair below is clear.
    • Lay the pieces separately on a clean towel. Fill a clean basin with lukewarm water and mix in the amount of shampoo specified for the extensions.

    Wash one piece at a time

    • Support the top seam with one hand and move the lengths gently through the wash water with the other. Do not scrub, twist or rub the hair together.
    • Clean the seam and clips only in the way their supplier permits. Do not soak them unless the instructions say to.

    Rinse out the shampoo

    • Drain the wash water. Keep holding the seam and rinse the lengths under gently running lukewarm water until no shampoo remains.
    • Let the lengths hang into the basin without stretching them. Lay the rinsed piece flat on a clean towel.

    Apply conditioner and wait

    • With the piece on the towel, smooth the recommended amount of conditioner through the areas its care instructions permit.
    • Keep conditioner away from the seam and clips unless their directions allow it. Leave it on for the stated time.

    Rinse out the conditioner

    • Support the seam over the basin again. Rinse the lengths thoroughly with lukewarm water, gently separating them so the water reaches both sides.
    • Check through the thicker areas for remaining conditioner. Do not scrub or brush the wet hair.
  6. Three rinsed clip-in wefts are laid separately on a clean towel with seams and clips exposed for air-drying.

    Press out water and lay the piece flat

    • Gently press out excess water without twisting. Spread the piece on a clean dry towel and pat it lightly; leave its seam and clips exposed.
    • Repeat the wash, shampoo rinse, conditioning and final rinse for each remaining piece. Lay them separately without stacking, changing wet towels when needed.
    • Leave them until the hair, seams and clips are completely dry. This may take many hours; do not pack them away damp.
  7. Hands lay a fully dry clip-in piece into an open case beside two other dry pieces, with the clips closed.

    Check dryness and put the pieces away

    • Feel the hair, top seam and clips for dampness before storage. If any area is still damp, leave the piece out to finish drying.
    • Once dry, brush each piece as in step 1, holding its seam. Close the clips and lay it neatly in its case.
    • Clean the basin and wash used towels.

About 20–40 minutes hands-on to brush, wash, condition and rinse a set, then clean up and put it away. Add the conditioner’s waiting time and complete air-drying.
