Put in and remove clip-in extensions

Step by step

   STEP 1 OF 7

   Check the pieces and practice opening the clips

   • A weft is a strip of extension hair joined along the top. Lay the dry pieces out in the order shown by your set’s row diagram.
   • Check for broken clips or damaged seams. Practice snapping each clip open and closed while it is off your head.
   • Start with your own hair detangled and dry. Hold each piece by its seam; brush toward the tips, starting near the ends and moving higher once the hair below is clear.

   Part your hair for the lowest row

   • Use the set’s diagram to find the lowest row. Make a horizontal part with your fingers and clip the hair above it out of the way.
   • Use a fixed mirror and a second mirror to check the back. Leave enough hair below for the clips to grip and above the finished rows to cover them.
   • Set a handheld mirror down before you use both hands to fasten clips.

   STEP 3 OF 7

   Fasten the center clip first

   • Choose the piece that matches this row’s width. Open all its clips before bringing it behind your head.
   • Hold the top seam against the part with one hand. With the other, slide the center clip’s teeth into the root hair just below the part and press it closed.
   • The clip should grip without pulling. If this piece has no center clip, use the starting position shown in its own instructions.

   STEP 4 OF 7

   Close the other clips and repeat the rows

   • Support the seam while sliding each remaining clip into the hair just below the part and pressing it closed. Keep the strip relaxed, without stretching it.
   • Open and reposition a clip that tugs. If the piece still slips or pulls, remove it and check the fit before continuing.
   • Make the next part above this row, clip the upper hair away and repeat. Follow the set’s placement diagram for the remaining back and side pieces.

   STEP 5 OF 7

   Let your own hair cover the clips

   • Remove the sectioning clips and let your upper hair fall over the extension rows. Use your fingers to lay it across any exposed seam.
   • Use both mirrors to check the back and sides, then put the handheld one down. Turn your head gently; remove a piece if it pulls.

   STEP 6 OF 7

   Open every clip before lifting a piece out

   • Before bed or washing, lift your upper hair away and clip it aside to expose the highest row. Remove the side pieces as you reach them.
   • Support the top seam with one hand. Snap every clip open with the other, then ease its teeth out of the hair without dragging them downward.
   • Lift the freed piece away and lay it on the table. Work down through the remaining rows; feel around your head to check that no clips remain.

   Put the dry pieces away

   • If a piece needs washing, use its own care directions first. Leave any damp hair, seam or clips out until completely dry.
   • Hold the dry piece by its seam and brush toward the tips. Start near the ends; begin higher only when the hair below is clear.
   • Close the clips and lay the piece neatly in its case without trapping or sharply folding the lengths.
