Shape growing-out short hair

When your short cut is between lengths, a gentle direction change can make the current shape easier to wear. Combing does not permanently train growth or speed it up.

A man gently combs a damp front section toward the side.

Step by step

  1. A man uses his fingertips to choose a comfortable side direction for his short hair.
    STEP 1 OF 3

    Choose a reachable direction

    • Start with lightly damp, detangled hair. At a stable mirror, use your fingertips to see which side the front section falls toward easily.
    • Keep the rest loose. Choose a direction you can repeat without pulling the hairline.

    STEP 2 OF 3

    Comb the surface gently

    • Use short, light comb passes through the chosen section in that direction. Keep the comb away from your eyes and stop at a snag.
    • Set the comb down and use your fingers to settle neighboring pieces; leave very short hairs free.
  3. A man leaves his short hair to dry loose after setting down the comb.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Release the shape to dry

    • Lower both hands and let the hair dry loose. Check the outline once dry, without another wet comb-through.
    • Remove loose hairs from the comb and clean it as its care directions allow. Accept some movement instead of pressing the shape tighter.

About 1–3 min hands-on for checking a comfortable direction, combing short sections and cleaning the comb. Start with lightly damp, detangled hair. Add air-drying.

Practical editorial estimate, not measured. Only short surface sections are shaped; no full wash or heated styling is included.

You’re done when…

The hair is dry in a comfortable temporary direction and the comb is put away.
