Put waves or curls in a loose pineapple
For dry waves, curls or coils that comfortably reach the top of the head, a loose pineapple can hold the lengths high overnight. This method uses one relaxed pass of a soft tie and includes the morning release.

Step by step
STEP 1 OF 4Gather the dry lengths high
- Check that your hair is fully dry, remove clips or pins, and place the soft tie around your wrist.
- Lean forward only as far as comfortable and sweep the lengths toward the top of your head with open hands.
- Keep your palms light at the roots and leave any section that will not reach without pulling.
STEP 2 OF 4Slip on the soft tie
- Hold the loose bundle with one hand and open a large fabric-covered tie with the other.
- Slide the tie over the bundle once, then let the ends fan freely above and slightly forward.
- Do not add another turn; choose a different tie size if one relaxed pass does not fit comfortably and stay in place.
STEP 3 OF 4Check the roots and tie
- Stand upright and look or feel around the front, sides and nape for pulled sections.
- Slip a fingertip beneath the tie to confirm that it rests loosely instead of pressing the bundle.
- If anything feels tight or uncomfortable, remove the tie and gather less hair or use another method.
STEP 4 OF 4Release it in the morning
- Support the bundle with one hand before you move the tie.
- Open the tie with your fingertips and slide it upward and off instead of pulling it through the curls.
- Let the hair fall on its own, then use your usual separate refresh only where needed.
About 30–60 sec hands-on for gathering dry curls, placing one loose tie, checking comfort and morning release. Add overnight wear; prior drying and a morning refresh are separate.
You’re done when…
The dry lengths sit high and loose, shorter sections are not forced into the tie, the roots feel relaxed, and one finger fits beneath the tie. In the morning, the tie slides off without being dragged through the curls.
