Detangle before shampoo with a pre-poo
Choose this when ordinary tangles make washing difficult and your product specifically supports detangling before shampoo. Product-coated sections let you work through snags gradually before the wash.

Step by step
STEP 1 OF 3Coat one loose section
- Check that your pre-poo allows dry-hair detangling followed by rinsing and shampoo. Read its amount, placement, contact time and follow-on steps.
- Set the product, shampoo and any conditioner your routine requires within reach. On dry hair, gently separate one reachable section without pulling knots apart.
- Spread the label’s amount over the section’s lengths and ends; set the container down before using both hands.
- Work only where the product gives enough slip for gentle handling. Do not rake through uncoated knots or add water against the label.
STEP 2 OF 3Start at the ends and work upward
- Hold the section above the lowest snag so your hand takes the movement. Use the other fingertips to ease a few strands apart at its edge.
- Once the ends separate freely, move your supporting hand a little higher. Continue in short stages through the already-cleared ends.
- If the label permits a comb, use a smooth wide-tooth comb in short downward passes, starting at the tips. Lift it out whenever it catches.
- Stop when the section passes gently without catching, then repeat on the next section. If a knot tightens or handling hurts, stop rather than force it.
STEP 3 OF 3Finish the wait, rinse and wash
- Complete only the contact time your label calls for; count the time already spent applying and detangling. Do not automatically add another full wait.
- Rinse thoroughly, opening the loose sections so water reaches underneath. Use a comfortable shower or basin without twisting the hair.
- Shampoo and rinse as directed. Complete any conditioning step your product or wash routine requires; pre-poo does not automatically replace it.
- Clear shed strands from your fingers or comb, clean the tool as directed, close products and rinse slippery residue from the washing area.
About 15–35 min hands-on for product application, ordinary full-head detangling, rinsing, shampoo, any conditioning and cleanup. Add remaining label waits; drying is separate.
You’re done when…
Each workable section has been gently cleared, the pre-poo rinsed away, and the directed wash routine completed. A stubborn knot is a reason to stop, not a target to force through.
