Blow-dry curly or coily hair smooth with a comb attachment

Choose a comb attachment when you want to stretch and smooth curly or coily sections without coordinating a separate brush.

Step by step

  1. Clipping damp coily hair into four reachable sections beside an unplugged dryer fitted with a comb attachment.
    STEP 1 OF 3

    Prepare damp sections

    • Read the dryer and attachment manuals, lock the approved comb attachment in place and set the dryer on a heatproof rest.
    • Apply compatible heat protectant as directed, detangle, then clip damp hair into sections that pass through the teeth without force.
  2. Guiding a dryer comb attachment down one damp coily section while the free hand supports the ends clear of heat.
    STEP 2 OF 3

    Dry with steady tension

    • Select the lowest effective permitted setting. Hold the dryer in one hand and support the section below the attachment with the free hand.
    • Start where the manual permits and glide toward the ends without parking heat. Keep teeth off the scalp and the guide hand ahead of the tool.
  3. Checking a dry stretched section with both hands while the unplugged dryer rests on a heatproof mat.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Check and cool

    • Pause before feeling roots and inner lengths; repeat only on damp areas rather than reheating the whole section.
    • Switch off and unplug before freeing a snag or changing attachments. Let the tool cool, then remove trapped hair as its manual directs.

About 25–60 min hands-on for detangling damp sections, applying protection, comb-attachment drying and cleanup. Add breaks and tool cooling; washing is separate.

Practical editorial estimate, not measured. Dense coils and repeated section changes can take much longer than loose-hair drying. This is not a heat-exposure target.

You’re done when…

Roots and inner lengths feel dry after a pause, the comb attachment passes without snagging, and the dryer is switched off and unplugged.
