An overnight endurance event gives you short stops, little help and hours without a tap. Read the rules before you pack anything for your hair. Choose a style you trust, spot the moments you can use, and don’t let hair things displace required kit.

What is going on

Find out where you can actually get to your bag

Read the event’s own instructions on help, drop bags and what each checkpoint has. A checkpoint isn’t automatically somewhere you can wash. Decide which small things you’ll carry on you and which, if any, you can reach at a support point that allows it.

Pack a tiny kit with one job

A spare hair tie the rules allow and a small cloth may be all you need for a quick reset at a stop. Keep the mandatory kit complete first. Only carry wash products if there’s genuinely somewhere to use them and time to rinse.

The style starts pulling in the night

  • Wait for a stop where you’re allowed to deal with it.
  • Take the tension out and redo the style without pulling the roots tighter.
  • Simplify the style if the rules let you. If it clashes with required gear like a headlamp, ask the event staff.

There’s no chance to wash

  • Blot the sweat you can reach with a clean cloth, if that helps you feel better.
  • Keep any hair tidying separate from the event’s water, hygiene and kit rules.
  • Save the proper wash for a real facility. Layering product on top doesn’t remove sweat or dirt.

You get a real sleep break

  • Follow the event’s rest arrangements and kit requirements first.
  • In a proper sheltered sleeping spot, give yourself time to take the hair down and let it dry if it’s damp.
  • Don’t take off required night gear, and don’t treat a pause at an aid station as a place to sleep.

If you decant an everyday product into a small bottle, check both the product’s directions and the container’s. Label it so you know what it is. Don’t mix two things or water one down to make it fit.

Save the fuller care for the finish

Once you’re back somewhere with water and time, use your usual conditioner and detangle properly. The finish-line routine can be as thorough as you like.

How to do it

1. Decant a small, clearly labeled supply

Use a clean bottle meant for it, and only if the event allows you to carry decanted products. Keep the name and the directions with it. Don’t drop required kit to make room for toiletries.

2. Use the damp-hair fallback only at a real rest stop

If there’s a proper sheltered sleep break, use the gentle damp-hair preparation on loose hair that suits it. Drying time is better if you can get it. This is a fallback, not a guarantee, and the event’s rules on gear and rest come first.
