Wash your scalp while wearing braids or twists

Wash between the roots of secure braids or twists, then rinse through the lengths. Use this method only when the style and added hair can be washed without coming apart.

Step by step

    Wet between the braid roots

    • Set the shampoo and towel within reach. Check the style’s wash instructions and leave time for complete drying afterward.
    • Under a fixed showerhead, turn so comfortably warm water reaches the crown, sides and nape. Move a few braids aside at a time.
    • Support heavy lengths with your free hand. Keep the roots slack while water reaches underneath.

    Wash the exposed scalp

    • Dispense shampoo as directed, then put the bottle down. Move out of the stream while applying it.
    • Hold a few braids aside with one hand. Gently move the other hand’s finger pads along the exposed scalp part; repeat around the head.
    • Follow the label for any waiting or length cleansing. Keep the braids intact; do not scratch, scrub bundles together or make new parts.

    Rinse the scalp and lengths

    • Turn under the water again. Move small groups aside so the stream reaches the crown, behind the ears and the nape.
    • Let water run through the lengths and underneath. Continue until no visible lather remains, including between closely spaced roots.
    • Repeat only if directed. Finish the style’s aftercare, rinse your hands and clear slippery residue. Turn off the water and begin drying.

About 10–20 min hands-on for wetting, cleaning exposed scalp parts, rinsing between roots and through lengths, and cleanup. Add any label-directed waiting, extra directed wash and complete drying.
