Wash semi-permanent color gently

When you want semi-permanent color to fade, a maker-approved wash offers a modest first step. Results vary; repeated harsh washing is not a reliable shortcut to a new shade.

Step by step

  1. Wetting loose colored hair before a permitted wash.

    Check the color maker’s advice

    • Confirm what color product is on your hair and whether its maker permits clarifying washing to fade it. Read both sets of directions.
    • If permitted, set your shampoo and usual compatible conditioner within reach, then wet the hair with comfortable water.

    Use one ordinary directed wash

    • Use the shampoo amount and placement on the label. Gently work through the permitted areas without scratching or repeatedly scrubbing lengths.
    • Rinse thoroughly. Do not extend the contact time or keep washing in the same session to chase a color target.
  3. Blotting rinsed colored ends with a towel.

    Condition and reassess when dry

    • Apply and rinse your compatible conditioner as directed. Blot excess water and let the hair finish drying in your usual gentle way.
    • Check the shade only after drying. If more change is needed, seek color advice rather than escalating to a homemade stripping mixture.

About 6–12 min hands-on for checking compatible directions, one shampoo wash, conditioning, rinsing and blotting. Add label contact times and complete drying before assessing color.
