Wash and dry a removable wig

Clean a removable synthetic wig gently while keeping its cap supported and its fibers free to air-dry.

Step by step

  1. One hand supports a detached synthetic wig above its ends while the other combs the dry ends on a towel.

    Remove and detangle

    • Confirm the fiber and cap care instructions. Remove the wig fully and inspect the cap for damage before washing.
    • Lay it on a clean towel; support the hair above a snag with one hand and gently comb the ends with the other.
    • Work upward only as tangles release. Use fingers for curls if your supplier requires; stop at matting or damaged knots.

    Wash in one direction

    • Support the cap with one hand and wet the wig fully under cool running water. Let the fibers fall downward without bunching them in the basin.
    • Gently spread the supplier-approved synthetic cleanser through the hair in the same direction; do not rub, wring or scrub the lace.
    • Rinse until cleanser is removed and water runs clear. Pat between a clean towel without twisting.

    Condition and air-dry

    • Set the wig naturally on an open plastic or wire stand. Apply the approved synthetic leave-in conditioner as directed, keeping it away from the cap knots and base.
    • Let the lengths hang freely so air reaches the fibers and cap. Keep the stand away from heat and leave the conditioner in only when its directions specify this.
    • Wait until the cap, nape and fibers are completely dry before wearing or storing. Clean the basin and launder the towels.

About 10–20 min hands-on for removing, detangling, washing, rinsing, towel pressing, conditioning and setting one wig on its stand. Add complete air-drying for fibers and cap; a required product wait is separate.

Cap, nape and fibers are fully dry, with no damp areas trapped against the stand. The wig is ready for its supplier-permitted styling or storage.
