Soften a dry gel cast

Once gel-styled waves, curls or coils are fully dry, gently cupping and compressing the firm sections with dry hands can soften the cast while keeping the curl groups together.

Woman cups fully dry curl groups in both open, empty hands and gently lifts them toward her jaw.

Step by step

  1. Woman with dry defined curls lightly checks an outer section while lifting inner hair near the nape with her other hand.
    STEP 1 OF 3

Check that every area is dry

    • Touch an outer section lightly with dry fingertips; it should feel dry rather than damp.
    • Lift a small section and check the roots, nape and inner lengths too.
    • If the hair still feels warm after diffusing, let it cool and check again before continuing.
  2. Woman cups fully dry curl groups in both open, empty hands and gently lifts them toward her jaw.
    STEP 2 OF 3

    Cup and compress the cast

    • Place both open, empty palms under the dry ends of one reachable area.
    • Lift the curl groups toward your head and compress them once with relaxed fingers.
    • Keep the movement broad and gentle; do not rub, pull, twist or separate the groups.
  3. Woman pauses with both empty hands lowered away from her dry curls while she checks the released section.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Release, check and stop

    • Lower both hands and let the dry curl groups fall completely.
    • Pause to feel the released area before deciding whether another gentle compression is needed.
    • Work only on sections that remain firmer than you want, then stop to avoid needless handling.

About 1–3 min hands-on for checking fully dry hair and gently compressing selected firm curl groups. All drying and cooling happen before this action.

Practical editorial estimate, not measured. Only the cast that needs softening is handled; long or dense hair can take longer.

You’re done when…

The treated sections feel as soft as you want, and the dry curl groups remain together without repeated handling.
