Slick hair back with low tension
Use this when you want a smooth pulled-back finish that stays loose enough to avoid pain, scalp tenting or a strained hairline.

Step by step
STEP 1 OF 3Place product on surface hair
- Follow the gel or smoothing product label for starting state and amount. Apply to the surface and hairline without saturating the scalp.
- Choose a low or middle gathering point and keep the hair behind the ears loose enough to move.
STEP 2 OF 3Brush back lightly
- Use a soft brush in short strokes toward the chosen gathering point while the other hand lightly gathers the lengths.
- Do not pull the hairline flat. If the scalp tents, stings or hurts, release and begin again more loosely.
STEP 3 OF 3Test the tension
- Secure with a soft fabric-covered tie only if needed. Slide a fingertip under the hairline and turn your head comfortably.
- Loosen immediately if you feel pulling. Wash product from hands and brush, then allow the surface to dry without tightening it.
About 3–7 min hands-on for applying a smoothing product, lightly brushing back, tying if needed and cleanup. Start with hair in the label's required state. Add drying; prior washing and detangling are separate.
You’re done when…
The surface has dried in place while a fingertip still fits at the hairline and head movement causes no pain, stinging or scalp tenting.
