Set volume with self-gripping rollers on dry hair

Use this finishing set when dry hair is still comfortably warm from a separate styling step and you want temporary root lift or a bend.

Rolling one dry crown section evenly onto a self-gripping roller with both ends tucked flat.

Step by step

  1. Lifting one smooth dry warm section above the crown beside an empty self-gripping roller.
    STEP 1 OF 3

    Choose a roller section

    • Start only when hair is dry and comfortably warm, never hot. Choose a section no wider than the roller and comb it smooth.
    • Hold the section away from the scalp and keep surrounding hair clear so no stray strands are caught.
  2. Rolling one dry crown section evenly onto a self-gripping roller with both ends tucked flat.
    STEP 2 OF 3

    Wind without pulling

    • Place the roller under the ends, keep them flat and roll toward the scalp with even light tension.
    • Set the roller against the head without pain. Add a smooth clip only if the roller directions permit and it feels loose.
  3. Supporting a cooled crown section while gently unwinding a self-gripping roller downward without pulling.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Unwind after cooling

    • Wait until every roller and the hair around it feel fully cool. Remove any clip before touching the roller.
    • Unroll in the reverse direction while supporting the section; never drag a roller sideways through the hair.

About 5–15 min hands-on for winding and later removing a few large volume rollers. Start with dry, comfortably warm hair. Add full cooling; any preceding blow-dry is separate.

Practical editorial estimate, not measured. A few crown or front rollers are quicker than a full-head set; many rollers can take longer.

You’re done when…

Hair and rollers feel fully cool, every roller unwinds without dragging or snagging, and the crown has the intended temporary lift or bend.
