Double-cleanse in one wash

Use two complete shampoo-and-rinse passes when one wash leaves visible oil or styling residue and the shampoo directions allow a repeat.

Clean hands separate rinsed roots to check for visible oil or styling residue before a second pass.

Step by step

  1. Finger pads massage the first pass of ordinary shampoo over a fully wet scalp.
    STEP 1 OF 3

    Complete the first cleanse

    • Wet the scalp and hair completely.
    • Apply the label-directed amount to the scalp and massage gently with finger pads.
    • Rinse the scalp, roots and lengths until visible suds are gone.

Use a basin you can lean over comfortably. Pour clean water with a cup or use a handheld sprayer; keep one hand free to open or support the hair. Put the cup, sprayer or bottle down before using both hands.

  2. Clean hands separate rinsed roots to check for visible oil or styling residue before a second pass.
    STEP 2 OF 3

Decide whether a second pass is needed

    • Pause before adding more shampoo. Check for obvious oil or styling residue at the roots.
    • If the first rinse met your cleansing need, stop here and continue with conditioner.
    • If residue remains and the label permits repeating, use a fresh label-directed amount.
  3. Finger pads complete a permitted second scalp shampoo pass before a thorough rinse.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Cleanse once more and rinse

    • Massage the second amount over the scalp without piling or rubbing the lengths.
    • Follow any label-directed contact time, then rinse thoroughly.
    • Condition as directed, rinse, and clean any slippery product from the shower floor.

About 8–15 min hands-on for wetting, up to two shampoo passes, thorough rinsing, conditioning and cleanup. Add any label-directed waits; drying is separate.

Practical editorial estimate, not measured. The second cleanse and conditioner each add handling; stopping after one adequate cleanse takes less time.

You’re done when…

The scalp and roots have had no more than two complete passes, no visible suds remain, and the hair and scalp still feel comfortable.
