Wear a hat or beanie over your style

Use this before an ordinary hat or beanie when you want the covering to sit without painful pressure and make the style easier to restore afterward.

Lowering a soft beanie gently over dry hair.

Step by step

  1. Arranging dry hair loosely with the beanie on the counter.
    STEP 1 OF 3

    Start with dry loose hair

    • Make sure roots and lengths are fully dry. Remove bulky pins or clips that would press into the scalp under the hat.
    • Loosely gather long hair low or leave it down. Avoid a tight base style beneath the covering.
  2. Lowering a soft beanie gently over dry hair.
    STEP 2 OF 3

    Lower the hat without dragging

    • Open the hat or beanie enough to clear the hair. Lower it gently over the crown rather than rubbing it back and forth.
    • Check that the band feels secure but not painful and that no hairline section is trapped under a seam.
  3. Lifting the beanie upward with both hands to remove it.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Lift it off and reset

    • Lift the hat upward with both hands. Release any loose gather and let the roots settle.
    • Use fingertips at the roots only if needed; stop rather than brushing repeatedly through static hair.

About 30–60 sec hands-on for loosely arranging dry hair, putting the hat on, checking fit and later removing and resetting it. Wear time, prior drying and later hat care are separate.

Practical editorial estimate, not measured. A familiar hat or beanie should take seconds to put on and remove; bulky hair or a first fit can take longer.

You’re done when…

The hat sits without painful pressure or trapped hardware, then lifts off without snagging so the roots can settle by hand.
