Wash your bonnet, scarf or pillowcase
When a washable sleep fabric needs laundering, its own care directions decide hand versus machine washing, water temperature, cleanser and drying. Treat silk as a fiber and satin as a weave, not as interchangeable care labels.

Step by step
STEP 1 OF 4Read the care directions
- Find the sewn label, packaging or maker instructions for this exact item. Note hand or machine wash, temperature, cleanser, drying and warnings.
- Wash one compatible load or item at a time. Separate colors and fabrics whenever the directions require it.
STEP 2 OF 4Prepare the allowed wash
- For hand washing, fill a clean basin with the directed water temperature and measure the allowed cleanser.
- For machine washing, choose the directed cycle and temperature. Measure the permitted cleanser; use a mesh bag only when directed.
STEP 3 OF 4Wash by the directed method
- For hand washing, submerge and gently squeeze for the directed time. Drain and refill to rinse as instructed, without twisting or wringing.
- For machine washing, load the item as directed, add cleanser to the directed compartment, run the permitted cycle, then remove it promptly.
STEP 4 OF 4Dry completely as directed
- Support the wet item as you lift it. Reshape it only as allowed, then lay flat, hang or tumble-dry using the exact directed method.
- Wait until the item is fully dry. Check the seams, elastic and closures before returning it to your bed or hair.
About 5–10 min hands-on for preparing a basin, gently hand-washing and rinsing one item, setting it to dry and cleanup. Add any label-directed soak and full drying.
You’re done when…
The item is clean, fully dry and free of visible cleanser residue, and its seams, elastic and closures remain ready for use.
