Use a room temperature rinse-free shampoo cap

A ready-made shampoo cap can make a seated wash more manageable when reaching a shower or basin is difficult. Choose a cap that fits all your hair and explicitly permits room-temperature use.

Step by step

  1. A seated woman opens a ready-made fabric shampoo cap beside its pouch and a clean towel.
    STEP 1 OF 4

Check the cap and arrange your supplies

    • Read the pack: confirm room-temperature use, contact time and any restrictions. Set out a towel and a bin beside a stable seat.
    • With clean hands, open the sealed pack as directed. Open the cap fully; leave it at room temperature.
  2. A woman fits the rinse-free cap around her hairline, enclosing her silver bob.
    STEP 2 OF 4

    Enclose all your hair

    • Bring loose lengths up gently, without twisting them tightly. With both hands, stretch the opening over your hair.
    • Set the edge outside your hairline, keeping your face clear. Tuck in the nape and ends; stop if the cap cannot contain them comfortably.
  3. A woman gently presses both hands against the outside of a fitted rinse-free shampoo cap.
    STEP 3 OF 4

Work through the outside of the cap

    • Use your palms and finger pads to press and gently massage through the cap, moving over the top, sides and back.
    • Work for your cap’s stated time so its lining contacts all your hair. Rest your arms if needed; do not scratch or pull through the fabric.
  4. After removing the cap, a woman presses a white towel against the ends of her damp silver bob.
    STEP 4 OF 4

    Remove, blot and discard

    • Lift off the cap slowly, freeing any caught hairs. This is a no-rinse method; follow any different instructions on your own pack.
    • Gently press your hair with the clean towel, including the nape. Let remaining dampness dry before covering your hair.
    • Put the used cap in the bin, close up the packaging and wash your hands. Clean and dry the work surface.

One seated cap wash, removal, towel-blotting and cleanup. Complete air drying is additional.

You’re done when…

The cap is off and discarded, your hair has been gently towel-blotted, and no edge is caught around your hair or face.
