Tuck hair around an elastic headband
Gather loose lengths into a soft roll around an elastic headband. Choose a roomy, comfortable band and hair sections that can be wrapped and released gently.
Step by step
STEP 1 OF 3Place a comfortable soft band
- Begin with dry detangled hair and a smooth fabric-covered elastic headband. Choose one without sharp decorations; skip damaged or snagging bands.
- Place the band over the loose hair, with its back resting across the outside of the lengths. Adjust it gently to a position that stays without pressing.
- Move your head to check comfort before wrapping. If it hurts or slides badly, remove it and use a better-fitting band.
STEP 2 OF 3Twist and tuck sections over the band
- Take a small section near one side, about an inch wide. Twist it lightly, then lift the end upward over the band and tuck it down behind the band.
- Support the band with one hand while guiding the hair with the other. For a longer section, repeat the wrap only while it stays smooth and comfortable.
- Continue with neighboring sections toward the back, then work from the other side. Tuck loose ends without pulling the roots or packing the roll tightly.
STEP 3 OF 3Unwind every section before lifting
- Support the band and find the last tucked end by touch. Ease that section back out along its wrapping path, without dragging the band through hair.
- Reverse the remaining sections one at a time. Pause to free crossed or caught hairs with your fingers rather than pulling harder.
- When all hair is free, lift the band away with both hands. Let your hair settle and check the band for trapped strands before putting it away.
Styling and later release; preceding detangling is separate.
You’re done when…
The rolled sections cover the back band comfortably, without hidden tangles or pressure, and each wrap can be located for removal.
