Pin back a growing-out fringe
Use this when a fringe is too long to wear forward but not yet long enough to stay with the rest of the hair.

Step by step
STEP 1 OF 3Choose the fringe section
- On dry detangled hair, isolate only the growing fringe and decide whether it will sweep to one side or split in two.
- Keep the base loose. If the section must be pulled hard to reach the pinning point, choose a closer point.
STEP 2 OF 3Guide it away from the face
- Smooth the section with fingers and make one loose twist away from the face, adding no more nearby hair than needed.
- Hold the twist flat with one hand and keep the hairline relaxed rather than stretching it backward.
STEP 3 OF 3Secure and test
- Slide one smooth pin into the twist so the rounded side faces the scalp and the pin lies flat. Add a crossed second pin only if comfortable.
- Release your hand, move your eyebrows and turn your head. Re-pin more loosely if there is pain, stinging or scalp lift.
About 30 sec–2 min hands-on for separating, guiding and pinning back a fringe, then checking comfort. Start with dry, detangled hair.
You’re done when…
The fringe stays clear of the face while eyebrow and head movement remain comfortable and the hairline does not lift.
