Pack a removable wig

Keep a dry wig’s cap, lace and lengths protected while you travel. This box-packing method shows how to arrange it, close the box without pressure and unpack it by the cap.

Step by step

  1. Hands hold the dry wig with its inner cap visible beside an empty storage box.
    STEP 1 OF 7

Check that the wig and box are dry

    • Check the inside of the cap and the hair for damp patches. Finish drying before packing; washing and drying are separate from this method.
    • Use the original box or a rigid case large enough for this wig. Set it open on a clean, dry table with the lid beside it.
  2. Hands support the reinforced cap edges while lowering the wig into its box.
    STEP 2 OF 7

Lower the wig into the box

    • Hold the sturdy cap edges with both hands. Lower the wig gently into the box in the position its packing directions show.
    • Let the lengths rest loosely inside. Keep your fingers off delicate lace, and do not flatten the cap to make it fit.
  3. Hands support a dry removable wig in its box while laying the front lace flat.
    STEP 3 OF 7

Clear the rim and lay the lace flat

    • With the box supporting the wig, guide loose lengths inside the rim. Lay any front lace flat, away from the edge where the lid closes.
    • If this wig uses its supplied storage net, arrange it around the hair as shown in its packing directions. Leave the net loose rather than squeezing the wig.
  4. Hands lower the box lid with the hair and front lace clear of the rim.
    STEP 4 OF 7

    Close the lid without pressing

    • Lower the lid slowly and check around the rim for trapped hair or lace. It should close without pushing down on the wig.
    • If the lid catches or resists, open it again. Rearrange loose hair or use a roomier box instead of pressing harder.
  5. Hands place the closed wig box in luggage with open space around it.
    STEP 5 OF 7

Place the box where it will not be crushed

    • Keep heavy items off the box and keep liquids and damp clothing in a separate compartment or bag.
    • Check that closing the suitcase does not press down on the wig box. Move items or use another bag if space is too tight.
  6. Hands lift the wig by its cap edges out of the open box; a loose storage net surrounds the lengths.
    STEP 6 OF 7

Open the box and lift by the cap

    • At your destination, set the box on a clean, dry table and remove its lid. Free any hair caught along the rim before lifting.
    • Hold the sturdy cap edges with both hands and lift the wig clear. Set it on its usual storage support or a clean surface.
  7. One hand supports the wig on a clean cloth while the other eases the storage net off the hair.
    STEP 7 OF 7

    Release the storage net gently

    • If a net is fitted, support the cap with one hand while easing the net away with the other. Free caught hairs a little at a time.
    • Inspect the cap, lace and lengths before wearing. Use this wig’s detangling method; ask its supplier about a crease or damage that does not settle.

Packing and later unpacking one dry wig. Washing and drying time are separate.

Editorial estimate, not timed. Familiarity with the equipment and careful handling can change the hands-on work.

You’re done when…

The lid closes without pressure, no hair or lace is caught, and heavier luggage cannot crush the box. After unpacking, the wig is free of its net and ready to inspect.
