Observe your air-dried pattern

When you want to describe waves, curls or coils more clearly, observe a normal air-dried wash day. The result reflects that day’s care, treatments and handling; it is not a permanent type measurement.

Letting loose curls air-dry without stretching them.

Step by step

  1. Blotting excess water after normal hair care.
    STEP 1 OF 3

    Keep your normal gentle care

    • Wash, condition and detangle as usual for your hair. Note the products and any chemical or heat-styling history that may affect its shape.
    • Leave the hair loose and blot drips gently. Do not brush it into a new shape just for this observation.
  2. Letting loose curls air-dry without stretching them.
    STEP 2 OF 3

    Let the loose hair dry

    • Let the hair air-dry without twisting, stretching or repeatedly touching it. Wear it loose until fully dry if that is comfortable for you.
    • If you need to change the setup, do so and record it; comfort matters more than keeping an observation controlled.
  3. Recording the appearance of fully dry hair.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Describe several regions

    • Once dry, look at front and side areas in good light. Note broad shapes such as mostly straight, waves, loops or tighter coils, including mixtures.
    • Record the date and care used. Keep the description provisional rather than forcing every region into one type label.

About 2–5 min hands-on for noting starting conditions, briefly arranging loose hair and describing several dry regions. The ordinary wash, conditioning, detangling and full air-drying are separate.

Practical editorial estimate, not measured. This is extra observation work during normal care; a few notes are sufficient and cannot establish a measured hair type.

You’re done when…

You have a dated description of the fully dry shapes and the care that preceded them.
