Make and wear a removable tinsel clip

Prepare a small tinsel ornament off your hair, then clip it into a reachable section. Open the fastener fully before taking it out.

Step by step

  1. Hands pass both tinsel tails through a folded loop at a snap clip attachment hole on a table.
    STEP 1 OF 3

    Attach the tinsel off hair

    • Fold a strand of hair tinsel in half. Hold the clip at the table and pass the folded loop through its attachment hole with fingers or a smooth loop threader.
    • Pass both free tails through that loop and settle it against the hole. Add only a few strands, keeping all tinsel away from the moving clasp.
  2. An adult holds an open prepared tinsel clip beside the side of her hair.
    STEP 2 OF 3

Fit and check the light clip

    • Open and close the prepared clip off hair to check that it works freely. Check the strand length before fitting; any shortening must be done off hair.
    • Lift a small reachable section of dry hair. Open the clip, slide its holding tongue into the supporting hair as its maker directs, and snap it closed.
    • Lower the covering hair and check for pulling, trapped strands or a slipping clip. Open and remove it if it will not sit comfortably.
  3. An adult holds the removed tinsel clip fully away from loose hair.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Open fully and lift out

    • Lift the covering hair and support the clip. Snap it fully open before easing its tongue out in the reverse direction; free any caught strands with your fingers.
    • Set the whole ornament on a dry surface and separate its strands gently. Remove it before sleep, washing or snag-prone activity and keep it away from heat.

One small clip, from attaching the tinsel to checking its fit.

Unmeasured editorial handling estimate for the stated scope. Familiarity, access and the item or hair being handled change the time.

You’re done when…

The tinsel is fixed to the clip, its closure is clear, and the light ornament sits comfortably and opens freely for removal.
