Make a finger-crochet hair chain

Try a short chain in one reachable side section. Keep each loop open enough to reverse, and stop well before the loose ends disappear.

Step by step

  1. An adult holds one open loop in a long side section, with the rest of the tail hanging.
    STEP 1 OF 3

    Make the first open loop

    • Separate one small dry side section and bring it forward without pulling the root. Keep the rest of your hair out of the working area.
    • Cross the section over itself once to form a loose loop near the upper length. Hold the crossing with one hand, leaving the tail hanging.
  2. An adult draws a folded part of the hair tail through an open loop using two fingers.
    STEP 2 OF 3

Pull a fold through each loop

    • Put two fingers through the loop, catch a folded part of the hanging tail and draw that fold through. Stop before the tail’s end passes through.
    • Keep your fingers inside the new loop. Let the previous loop settle gently around its base, then repeat with another folded part of the tail.
    • Make just a few links, leaving a generous loose tail. Support the chain and pin its final loop to nearby hair without poking the scalp.
  3. An adult holds the completely released side section, with the pin and sectioning clip on the table.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Unpin and reverse the links

    • To remove, support the chain and take out the pin first. Widen the last link and ease its folded hair back through the preceding loop.
    • Repeat from the last link toward the first, keeping each strand slack. Uncross the starting loop and release any sectioning clip. Stop to free a catch.

One small side accent; learning and removal may take longer.

Unmeasured editorial handling estimate for the stated scope. Familiarity, access and the item or hair being handled change the time.

You’re done when…

The short chain is pinned without root tension, with a visible loose tail and a removal path through each loop.
