Fasten hair with a clasp barrette

Hold a small half-up gathering with a hinged clasp. Choose a barrette that closes easily around the amount of hair you want to contain.

Step by step

  1. A woman supports her half-up gathering while closing a clasp barrette around it.
    STEP 1 OF 2

Pass the arm beneath the section

    • Start with dry detangled hair and a smooth undamaged clasp barrette. Practice pressing its release pads and opening it off your head.
    • Bring two reachable side sections together behind your head without pulling. Hold this small half-up gathering in one hand; leave the lower hair loose.
    • Open the barrette and guide its lower arm beneath only the gathered section until the latch end clears the hair. Keep stray strands out of the hinge.
    • Bring the upper plate toward the lower arm and latch it gently. If it needs force, reopen it and reduce the gathering or choose a roomier barrette.
  2. A woman holds her gathered section while opening the barrette’s lower arm for removal.
    STEP 2 OF 2

    Release the clasp completely

    • Lower your hands and check for pressure or pulling. Refit or remove an uncomfortable barrette.
    • For removal, support the gathered section. Press the clasp’s release pads, open the lower arm and gently slide it out from beneath the section.
    • Pause to ease any caught strand away from the hinge or latch. Let the side sections fall and put the closed barrette away.

One fastening and later removal, with detangling done beforehand.

Unmeasured editorial handling estimate for the stated scope. Familiarity, access and the item or hair being handled change the time.

You’re done when…

The lower arm latches easily, the roots stay comfortable and the clasp opens without dragging through the lengths.
