Fasten a ponytail with a hair bungee

Hold a relaxed ponytail while anchoring and wrapping a hair bungee around its base. Release the last hook and unwind the cord before removing the first hook.

Step by step

  1. A man holds his ponytail while wrapping a hooked hair bungee around its base.
    STEP 1 OF 2

    Anchor, wrap and anchor again

    • Start with dry detangled hair and a purpose-made hair bungee with smooth rounded hooks and sound elastic.
    • Gather a relaxed ponytail in one hand. Use the other to anchor the first hook into hair at the base, clear of your skin.
    • Keep supporting the base as you wrap the cord around it with comfortable tension. Stop before the roots pull.
    • Anchor the remaining hook into the hair at the base, not into the first hook. Keep both ends clear of skin and do not force extra tight turns.
  2. A man supports his ponytail while unhooking and unwinding the hair bungee.
    STEP 2 OF 2

    Unhook before unwinding

    • Lower your hands and gently turn your head. Refit or remove the bungee if it pulls or either hook presses.
    • To remove it, support the tail. Ease the last hook out of the hair and keep hold of the released end so it does not spring away.
    • Unwind the cord around the base, then lift the first hook free. Ease out any caught strands with your fingers and put the bungee away.

One fastening and later removal, with detangling done beforehand.

You’re done when…

The ponytail feels relaxed, both hooks sit clear of skin and the cord can be released by unhooking and unwinding.
