Tie and remove a durag
Center a durag over dry short hair, keep its straps flat and tie a comfortable front bow. Untie and unwrap it fully before lifting the panel away.
Step by step
STEP 1 OF 3Center the panel over dry hair
- Begin with dry short hair and a clean durag. Identify the front, center seam and rear flap from its directions.
- Set its front above your eyebrows with the center seam aligned down the middle. Let the rear flap lie down the back and one strap hang at each side.
- Smooth loose folds with your hands without rubbing or pulling the hair. Keep your face and ears clear.
STEP 2 OF 3Cross flat straps and tie a bow
- Hold one strap in each hand. Take them behind your head and cross them, then bring each end forward above the ears.
- Keep the straps spread flat rather than rolled into narrow cords. Tie the ends in an easy-to-release bow at the front without pulling the panel tight.
- Lower your hands and turn your head. Loosen or remove the durag if you feel pressure or pulling; do not tighten it to chase wave definition.
STEP 3 OF 3Untie before lifting away
- Hold the bow and gently draw out a free end to open it. Unwrap each strap around the sides and undo the rear crossing.
- With both straps free, lift the panel away using both hands. Ease any caught hair out before continuing.
- Let the hair settle. Clean and dry the durag by its care label before storage when needed.
Fitting and later removal; hair preparation and wearing time are separate.
You’re done when…
The panel rests evenly, the face stays clear and the straps untie easily without pulling on the hair.
