Secure a dry wig to a canvas block
A canvas block can hold a dry wig steady while you style it off your head. Learn to secure the block, pin only the cap’s reinforced areas and remove every pin before lifting the wig.
Step by step
STEP 1 OF 5Secure the empty block to the table
- Fit the canvas block to its clamp and attach the clamp to a stable, dry table using its setup instructions. Use the block size specified for this wig.
- Gently check that the block and clamp do not wobble or slide. Put the T-pins in a small dish within reach.
STEP 2 OF 5Place the dry wig without stretching it
- Check that the cap and hair are fully dry. Find the reinforced fabric areas where this cap can be pinned; ask the supplier if you cannot identify them.
- Lower the wig onto the block by its sturdy cap edges. Line it up without stretching the cap or pulling on the lace.
STEP 3 OF 5Insert pins through the reinforced areas
- Hold one approved reinforced area against the canvas. Keep your supporting fingers beside the pin’s path, then insert a T-pin through that area into the block.
- Repeat only where this cap permits pins. Keep the lace and delicate mesh clear; stop if the cap distorts or the block moves.
STEP 4 OF 5Take out every pin
- Support the cap beside each pin. Hold the pin’s crossbar and draw it out along the way it went in, keeping fingers clear of the point.
- Put each pin straight into the dish. Check every mounting spot and account for all the pins before lifting the wig.
STEP 5 OF 5Lift the unpinned wig clear
- Hold the sturdy cap edges with both hands and lift the wig off without tugging its hair or lace. Set it on its usual storage support.
- Put the pins away securely. Release the table clamp only after the wig and pins are safely set aside.
Mounting and later removal only; styling is a separate action.
You’re done when…
The dry wig rests without cap distortion and stays in place with pins confined to approved reinforced areas; all pins are removed before later lifting.
