Fasten a headscarf with magnets

Arrange a comfortable scarf drape, then sandwich a flat overlap between a matching magnet pair. Hold both pieces during removal and account for them before putting the scarf away.

Step by step

  1. An adult holds the separate pieces of a scarf-magnet pair near a loose fabric overlap before joining it.
    STEP 1 OF 2

    Join a flat fabric overlap

    • Work at a clear table away from children, with a matched scarf-magnet pair and a closed case. Keep magnets out of your mouth and away from affected medical devices.
    • Arrange your scarf comfortably. Choose a plain flat overlap that is easy to reach, with no skin or hair between its layers and no pulling around your neck.
    • Separate the pair. Hold one piece behind the overlap and align the other in front, keeping your fingers out of the join as the pieces meet.
    • Check that turning your head is comfortable. If it slips or pinches, separate the pair and change the drape or fastening method.
  2. An adult places both removed scarf-magnet pieces into an open storage case.
    STEP 2 OF 2

Control both pieces and put away

    • Hold one magnetic piece in each hand and separate them with control. Support the fabric so the pull does not stretch it; never slide a joined pair along it.
    • Put both pieces in their case and close it, following the maker’s storage directions. Check the scarf for other fasteners before removing or washing it.
    • Keep the closed case out of children’s reach. If a magnet is swallowed, seek immediate medical attention.

Fitting and later removal; hair preparation and wearing time are separate.

Unmeasured editorial handling estimate for the stated scope. Familiarity, access and the item or hair being handled change the time.

You’re done when…

The scarf rests comfortably, with only fabric inside the fastener; both magnetic pieces are accounted for when it comes off.
