Before outdoor time, covering an exposed part or thinly covered scalp is a practical sun-protection step. A hairstyle or a different part alone does not establish protection.

    Check the coverage

    • Choose a comfortable wide-brim hat with a covered crown. Check that the material and fit cover your exposed part rather than leaving it under an opening.
    • Set it on a clean surface while arranging your hair loosely; avoid a tight style just to make the hat fit.

    Set the hat on gently

    • Lower the hat onto your head without dragging the hairline. Adjust its approved band or tie just enough for a secure, comfortable fit.
    • Turn your head and check that the crown still covers the scalp. Loosen it if it presses painfully.

    Keep checking outdoors

    • Use shade when available and check the hat again if wind or movement shifts it. Follow its care directions after use.
    • If the hat will not stay comfortably in place, change your coverage before continuing the outing.

About 15–30 sec hands-on for putting on an already chosen hat and checking coverage and comfort. There is no waiting step. Brief rechecks during the outing and later hat care are separate.
