Attach and remove a twist-open hair ring

Use one light ring on a visible, reachable braid crossing. Check its opening before it touches hair and remove it before sleep or snag-prone activity.

Step by step

  1. An adult checks a small twist-open ring between both hands away from a side braid.
    STEP 1 OF 3

Check and open the ring off hair

    • Check the ring for rough edges and practice its closure away from hair. Use only a lightweight ring designed to twist open by hand.
    • Twist the two ends sideways apart as its maker directs. Keep its round shape and set it in a small dish while choosing a reachable braid crossing.
  2. An adult supports a side braid while guiding an open ring through a visible braid crossing.
    STEP 2 OF 3

Pass through and close with hair clear

    • Support the braid with one hand. Guide one open ring end through a small existing gap in the crossing; do not pierce, pull or force hair apart.
    • Use both hands to twist the ends back into alignment, with every strand clear of the seam. Check that it feels smooth, stays closed and does not pull.
  3. An adult holds the removed ring away from the braid above a small dish.
    STEP 3 OF 3

    Open before lifting it away

    • To remove, support the ring and twist its ends apart again. Follow its path back through the braid crossing without dragging the closed ring along hair.
    • Set the ring in the dish and check that the braid is free. Remove it before sleep, contact sport or any activity where an ornament could catch.

You’re done when…

The ring’s ends meet smoothly without trapping hair, the braid remains comfortable and the ring can be opened again by hand.
