Apply pressed hair chalk to a small section
Try a small color accent on reachable dry lengths with a pressed hair chalk made for that starting state. Check a hidden strand first because light or lightened hair can retain a stain.
Step by step
STEP 1 OF 3Protect clothing and select a small section
- Read the label’s tests and warnings. Check application and removal on a hidden strand first, especially if your hair is blonde or lightened.
- Protect the counter and clothes and put on gloves. Bring one small dry manageable section forward; use the supplied applicator if the label requires it.
STEP 2 OF 3Slide the compact down the supported length
- Support the section above the coloring area with one hand. With the other, slide the chalk down the length in the way its compact and applicator direct.
- Use light controlled passes and check color before repeating. Do not rub forcefully or pull the roots to make a pale shade show on darker hair.
STEP 3 OF 3Clear residue and follow removal directions
- Stop at the accent you want. Follow the label’s no-heat setting and excess-removal directions; keep chalk away from your eyes and avoid spreading loose dust.
- Close the compact, clean your hands and protected surface, and keep freshly colored hair off fabrics that could stain.
- At the directed time, shampoo and rinse out the color as labeled. If a stain persists, ask your colorist; do not scrub or improvise bleach or solvents.
A small reachable area, excluding any prior label-directed test and later washing.
You’re done when…
The small chosen length has the desired accent, loose residue is cleared as directed, the compact is shut and removal follows its shampoo directions.
