Apply a pre-wash oil treatment
For wash days when your selected oil is labeled for use before shampooing. A thin, section-by-section application keeps the treatment on reachable lengths and makes the later wash-out manageable.

Step by step
STEP 1 OF 4Check the label and set up
- Confirm that your oil is labeled for pre-wash use on hair lengths, then note its starting state, amount, dwell and wash-out directions.
- Start with loose hair in that state. Put the closed bottle on a reachable counter and protect clothing if the label advises it.
STEP 2 OF 4Spread and smooth through lengths
- Dispense only the label-directed starting amount, set the bottle down, and spread the oil thinly over both palms and fingers.
- Bring one section forward. Smooth over the mids and ends with relaxed hands, keeping the oil off the scalp; repeat only as the label directs.
STEP 3 OF 4Leave it for the directed time
- Release the treated lengths so they rest without tight pulling. Keep oily hair away from your face, clothing and the floor.
- Wait only for the label’s dwell time. Do not add heat or extend this room-temperature method into an overnight treatment.
STEP 4 OF 4Wash it out
- Move to the shower or sink when the dwell ends. Shampoo and rinse exactly as your oil and cleanser directions require.
- Continue the rest of your wash routine. Close the bottle, clean any oily surface and wash your hands.
About 8–15 min hands-on for sectioning, oil application, the directed shampoo wash-out and cleanup. Add the oil's label-directed dwell. Later conditioning and drying are separate.
You’re done when…
The directed dwell has ended and the oil has been washed from the hair according to both labels. The floor and counter are dry, and no extra heat or unplanned overnight step was added.
